Holidays in Hong Kong > Day 3 / Saturday, January 13, 2007

This morning I had to wake earlier to get my visa into China. It was done fairly quickly and the photo I took turned out pretty good too, a good sign? Then Olivia and I went to MacDonalds next door. Really love the milk tea there, getting a hot one for a change this morning. Haha ther person gave me a weird look when I asked for 8 sugars XP Then we went to Admiralty to wait for the boys, but it turns out I had told them the wrong station O_O Luckily it was only one station off, hehe... We got on the bus to Ocean Park, it wasn't very crowded today. Chris' has the cutest Chinese dialect I have ever heard!!=^_^= Cat is 'miu', Cantonese/Mandarin is 'mao', Vietnamese is 'meow' and English is...'cat' -.- The four of us spent all bus ride meowing at each other, so fun :P

The first thing in Ocean Park was through a souvenir shop, where we found heaps of cute toys, but everything was (as expected) very very expensive. The boys hadn't eaten breakfast yet so we went to look for MacDonalds because everything else was (again) very very expensive. We went up four really really long escalators and took some nice scenic photos. It tooks aaaaaaages ro find MacDonalds. We were getting so many vague/wrong directions, but finally we got there. After lunch, we didn't want to go on any rides just in case we threw up, so we went to the Jellyfish exhibition. We took a long road that gave us a nice view of the sea. Along the way there was this wall and Maiki's like "go! climb it, climb it!" while the other two were like "nonono!!!" But I did anyway and I cut my hand on it... On the way down my hair flopped in my face and I couldn't tell where the floor was because it was around the same colour as the wall and I'm like "oh shit, where's the floor?!"

It turned out we had taken a really long, sceninc path to nowhere. We wanted to see the jellyfish, seals and pands, and the path Olivia had led us on led us to none of these places. But we handed the map around and eventually Chris led us to the Sea Jelly Spectacular, which was. Absolutely beautiful. Jellyfish are one of my favourite animals, and there I was in a house full of them!! Some jellyfish were as big as a bowling ball and a metre of trailings while others are smaller than your pinky nail and almost transparent. After coming out we took the cable car back down to the other side of Ocean Park to see the pandas. It was then I discovered Chris and Maiki had vertigo. They tell me more boys have vertigo than girls, but they are the only boys I know that are afraid of heights while I know heaps of girls that are afraid of heights. Otherwise the ride was a wonderful experience, the wind blowing through and the scenery travelling below you.

Ocean Park was really empty today, so we didn't even have to line up to see the pandas. There are two pandas in Ocean Park; An An, a 20-year-old male and Jia Jia, a 28-year-old female. 30 in panda years is equivalent to a human of 80 years! So all Jia Jia did was sleep, and An An wasn't around.

Olivia started to get really quiet and distant and along the way she started sniffing and crying. The three of us wondered what was wrong, but we all thought she was just down and needed some discretion. But one person down, especially the person who was usually the loudest dampened the atmosphere for everyone else. We tried to give her time to herself so we were scared to do anything with her, and it was quite disturbing to just hear her sniffing and crying as you were walking along, trying to pretend as if you couldn't hear it. I started getting angry at her because I really believe you shouldn't be sad on someone's birthday and it was ruining Maiki's 18th.
