The Buddha Festival cont. / Sunday, May 07, 2006
I worked for the rest of the Buddha Festival at Malaysian Delicacies. On Saturday after Chinese School (which my teacher finally let me skip) and guzhung I took a bus to SouthBank. It was crowded so I stood near the entrance. There was this one stop where this guy wanted to get off, and he was pushing past me saying excuse me, and I couldn't turn back to see if he was going left or right so I just stood closer to the bus driver, and nearly got a pram smashed in the back of my head. When the guy got off he turned back and yelled at me "excuse me means get out of the fucking way!" Geez, I was TRYING to move it's just there's NO SPACE!!! And the driver shut the door in his face XP
Work was awesome as usual. Met Doris, another helper, and two other guys, of which I don't know their names. Haha, me and Ivy and Doris keep on picking on Vince. But he's just so laughable XDXD We make fun of him and tease him and gang up on him and poke him and he pouts. Hahaha, they're all so fun to be around with. Omg, I keep on bloody singeing myself!! So annoying. And I burnt the back of my hand on the light/heater thingy in the top of food display thingy. Most annoying thing was I was wearing a glove at that time, so I melted the plastic on my hand and now there's a welt ;( Ivy left early and Doris wanted to go watch the fireworks. Vince disappeared on a 'toilet break' for most of an hour during the fireworks. Doris was so pissed she was missing the fireworks and he was watching them with his girlfriend. I see it from my house every year for the Ekka so I didn't really want to. But I did want to go walk around, although during the day would be better. I left late at night, helping to wash the dishes even. It was 11 when I got home. I just took a hot shower and went to sleep. I was so tired I nearly fell asleep in the shower, although I was hyped when I got home.
On Sunday I nearly got up late, but it was alright. I helped set up store which was fun as well. I tied the pole of the sign to make it stand up and plastered the front of the food display thing with signs. I am sooo tired of people asking what's this what's this so I just stuck a million signs everywhere of everything. Of course, there were always tools who couldn't/wouldn't read and asked me anyway. But then I could just point instead of explaining again XD I managed to burn my other hand in the first half hour of the last day. But as least I didn't have a glove on this time. Neither Ivy nor Doris worked that day, instead there was Lisa (Vince's little sister), Davies (Vince's friend) and Sandry. Lisa is cool. She talks and works really slowly but she's cool. Haha, she gives me fairy floss XP Davies is like stoned all the time. But he's funny as well. We pick on Vince too XD "You're useless Vince, no one wants you" But Vince picks on us too so all is good. But I don't really like Sandry. She has this goddamn annoying American drawl which is so annoying. It was definitely more fun when you're with people your age I guess. You just understand the jokes. Me and Davies kept on arguing over who was serving customers and who was packing the food in bags.
You feel so stupid when you ask people who are looking at the food displays "can I help you?" or whatever, and they either ignore you, or walk away. Just like geez, fine, leave then :P Hahahah
Since it was the last day of the Buddha Festival I wanted to go have a walk around. Technically we don't get any breaks, but Vince's mum is cool, she doesn't say a anything if you disappear for like a half hour toilet break. And she's not the I'm-gonna-take-every-second-of-rest-and-every-noodle-you-eat-and-take-it-off-your-pay type. She keeps on urging us to eat and doesn't mind if we steal stuff from the displays to eat.
I 'changed my shirt' (and took 20 minutes at it XP) walked around, bought stuff to eat but other than that it was all tourist-overpriced stuff. I only felt tired when there was nothing to do, because you have time to stand still and contemplate your boredom, but when it's busy I felt so hyped. Hahaha, I kept on tripping over stuff. It's really oily and slippery near the back of the stall where they cook, and if you run, you'll slip. I never learned :P I always seem to trip over Vince though. Once he caught me when I was rushing back to get some rice and he said "oh I didn't know you were falling for me XD" and all the customers were laughing >_< Haha but I slapped him back. I had to take my glasses off because it was getting really oily and when I rubbed them they would smear all over, so I had to work for 2 hours without them. Funny because I had to bring everything within an inch or so to my face to see it. Almost spilt the packet of food all over myself. I sneaked out and bought some ice-cream. I felt so bad because I was taking so many breaks eating that day, but oh well, last day after all.
Davies left early and Sandry left at 9ish so I stayed behind to help pack up. It was so fun because they were trying to sell everything off before they left so everything was on discount. Me and Vince were stuffing around heaps and they kept on telling us to stop mucking around :P I got a bonus for every customer I served during the last hour. w00t! It's always no one wants corn, and then 10 people want 3 cobs each. I think my thumb is desensitized now from having 50 skewers stuck in it. Gah, I accidentally dropped a cob when I was getting it from the pot and hot water went all over my hand :( I seem to have this problem with hot stuff. But during the last hour I was most hyped because we were all yelling stuff like "corn for 50c! everything on discount!" I nearly yelled "everything for 50c!" once. Hahaha.. During the last half hour they couldn't be stuffed trying to sell things off, so we just gave stuff away for free. Haha, cheap bastards XD But I'd sure be there for anyone who was giving away free food!!! AZN PRIDE!! w00!!
I helped them pack things into the car, and got a free ride on the trolley :P nearly got rammed into a pole XD Then I took the train home. Fun night altogether. Really worth it. So fun. Hope I get hired again next year. Pity I did NO homework this weekend. Bah, do it later :P
